Set my Avatar using Modify Avatar with a photo from my computer, tried to change it to another photo and it appeared to work (displayed the new photo), but when I went to the forums it had the first picture.
When I went back to my profile, it also showed the first picture.
I had to upload the photo to the internet and link to it from a url to get the photo to switch.

I'm not sure, but I think the Site and Forums both have Avatar.

That wasn't the problem.
I haven't been able to find anyplace to modify my profile except from the forums tab.

The modify avatar shows 2 different ways to use a photo as your avatar--off a photo on your computer or a URL.

It would appear to modify my avatar from a photo on my computer, but when I went to the forums it was the old photo.
Same picture, uploaded to photobucket, and it changed it when I referenced the URL.

Z2C-Still encountering this same problem.
I'll try uploading to a site and see if it will update from there.
the upload from my computer SEEMs to work, I see the picture listed as my current avatar, but when I go to the forums it's my old avatar.

Chances are the file you're trying to upload does not fit within the size restrictions. Attach the avatar to your post and I'll see what can be done.

File was 160x160 pixels, 23kb in size.

The photo displayed in my profile after I uploaded it.

Thanks, Zero-one of the reasons I change my avatar so infrequently is I haven't been able to do I myself.
Any idea of why it sticks when you change it, but won't stick when I change it?

That's the same process I went through, but my screen looks slightly different.

When I choose modify avatar, the screen gives me the choice of "Select Avatar from our collection" with a link next to it or "Upload Avatar from Your Computer" with a window next to it with a button labeled "browse".
I browsed to the photo, selected it, and then hit the update button to the right.
The photo under "Current Avatar" is replaced with the new photo...until I navigate to any other page.
I hit the back button same as you did, and on the page that comes up my avatar reverts back to the old photo.

Ok, as a test to see if I could change it back to my old avatar (the answer was No).
here's some screenshots as I go through the process...

My profile page when I started, showing the current avatar you loaded for me:

The Page I get when I select "Modify Avatar"

The "Modify Avatar" Page after I've browsed to the photo and hit "Update"
The "Current Avatar" photo was replaced with the one I had just browsed to.

Then I hit the "Back" button at the bottom of the page, just like you did and here's the page I get, with original avatar photo that I was trying to change.
