In a wild year, yet another head coach has been fired midseason.
Mike Nolan has confirmed to FOX Sports that he has been fired by the San Francisco 49ers. Nolan was informed by team brass late Monday afternoon.
It is assumed that current defensive coordinator Mike Singletary will assume Nolan's coaching duties. There were reports earlier today that Nolan would be fired after the team's next game Sunday against Seattle, but ownership instead decided not to wait.
Nolan was in the midst of his fourth season in San Francisco and leaves with an 18-37 record. The 49ers appeared to have hope after a 7-9 season in 2006
the team's best record in three years at the time.
But the Niners sank to 5-11 last season as Nolan and his one-time franchise quarterback Alex Smith reportedly had a falling out, with the Niners' offense ranking as the league's worst in 2007.
Err, wait. This is from Glazer, its not true. :P

Well that didn't take long. Wonder if the new coach will stick with JTO or switch in Shaun Hill. Either way, when they're the options it doesn't bode well.

Mike Singletary is the new HC. I like that move. I wanted him to be our HC after we let Sherman slip through our fingers.

I'm not a niner fan, but if I were, I'd be excited about having Singletary as a coach.
As a player, he was intense, but also a student of the game. Smart player.
Doesn't mean he will automatically make a great HC. But he brings respect. And if he coaches like he plays, he'll bring intensity.

an interesting move.
during half time, berman was all "up in arms" at the decision - anybody know why?
i'd think singletary would do a pretty good job for them - very intelligent man - good luck 49ers.
