Listening to the Aaron Rodgers Show with Jason Wilde yesterday something came up that I thought was interesting and reminded me of something early in his career.
When Mike McCarthy first took over he implemented some rules about weight and body fat.

Around January 2007, Rodgers said "Mike always hounds me about my weight, my body fat. All the quarterbacks he's ever been around have always been around 8% body fat, and I'm about 10. So I want to get down to about 8%. At least. Remember (quarterback) Tom Arth? He was 5.6%, which is incredible. Al (Harris) is, like, 3, I think."

During his radio show, Rodgers attributed his hamstring injury versus Saints to poor hydration due to his trying to make game-day weight followed up with him saying that the weigh-ins are “an interesting concept in itself, and I’m not going to debate that at this moment.”. It seems obvious that Rodgers is still not thrilled about the weight requirements.

He knows what the game-day weight is and has a full week to to make it. How hard can that possibly be for a person who's job is their body?

If he has been having to weigh in since 2007, it sounds like something that should be routine for him, so what was different that week?
If he was having a dehydration issue that week it would sound like he slacked off on his routine during the week in order to have to drop at the last minute to make weight.

I have a few years experience of having to make weight from wrestling in HS back before dropping weight was frowned on as much.
Rehydrating between weigh in and match time wasn't that difficult.

Clearly MM knows nothing about quarterbacking. It has been an absolute disaster ever since drafting ARod. He has not developed at all. The MVP trophies are a travesty.

Seriously, though. AR's ability to escape and keep plays alive is critical to his success. Does anyone think he would be a better QB if he packed on 5-10 pounds, thus becoming a little less mobile? I don't. So why not weigh in? I am sure most on the team have weight goals. Why should he be above it? It sounds like preferential treatment over a silly issue. Be a leader and suck it up.

The thing is, some people can perform better with a LITTLE more weight on them. I'm not saying to let him balloon out of control, but why not give him at least a LITTLE break. Maybe it would help keep him healthy, and not get hamstring problems.

On that note.......think of all the hamstring problems the Packers seem to have every year. Could it be because of some crazy weight expectations? Maybe that expectation is causing more damage then good.
Give a little leeway, and see if that takes care of the problem.

This.
Is it easier to run with or without a 10 pound bag on your back?
Hamstring issues would not be alleviated by being fatter.
The organization is paying him 120 million...if they want him hydrated and and a certain body fat percentage, shut up and do it.

Nobody, including AR, is advocating that he put on 10 pounds.
He just wants a little leeway with his body fat percentage and hydration options.
Wrestlers often run into health and injury issues trying to keep their body fat percentage as low as possible to make weight.
There should be no such expectations for football players.

This has been in place for 8 years now?
It's not like Mike announced for the first time ever in late May that if they don't make weight at OTAs they're off the team.
If he had been watching what he was eating the rest of the week(s) maybe he wouldn't have to worry about not hydrating at the last minute in order to make weight.
