NFL PREVIOUSLY CLEARED STARCAPS
Posted by Mike Florio on November 16, 2008, 8:05 a.m.
We've picked up a little information regarding the specific arguments that could be made when the various players who were popped for Bumetanide present their appeals to the NFL.

The players who are fighting four-game suspensions include Vikings defensive tackles Kevin and Pat Williams, Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jackson, and a trio of Saints: running back Deuce McAllister and defensive ends Charles Grant and Will Smith.

One of the primary arguments will be that the NFL has three prior inquiries regarding the StarCaps product, and that the league in each case said that StarCaps contained no banned substances.

As it turns out, StarCaps secretly contained Bumetanide, a diuretic that is now on the banned substances list.

It's our understanding that a similar argument has been used on several occasions in the past to avoid player suspensions.

If so, then the well-known principle that players are responsible for that which is in their bodies has a fairly significant exception, and in our view it only seems fair that players would not be punished if they previously had been told by the NFL that the stuff they're taking won't trigger a violation of the rules.

Nice.

Lets hope the NFL gets its crap together on this stuff.

Otherwise, all it's REALLY doing is tarnishing it's players reputations.

No one should be suspended for this.
As much as I would like to see suspensions for win/loss purposes, I'm not going to adjust my thinking on this because of it. Way too much ambiguity, and I would say evidence pointing towards innocence.
Fair is fair, as much as it pains me to admit. Now, if you wanna talk about that arrogant dirty playin' JA...now there's a(n) [strike]ass[/strike] horse of a different feather....

I honestly hope the Williams sisters don't get suspended over this.
If the NFL can't be definitive on this, how are the players supposed to know what's ok and what isn't.

Yup.
That's what I'm saying.
And I'm not even saying it from a biased point of view.

Whatshisface (alfred e neuman guy that does injuries) on ESPN said the most likely scenario IF suspended would be next year, taking into account appeals.
That would give the Vikes time to adjust for it, kinda like what will probably happen with a certain cough syrup squared suckin' fool from our team.

From Andrew Brandts blog

Why are the rulings on the diuretic pill involving several players taking so long?

This is more complicated than it appears.
Evidently, a company called StarCaps sold this product without the banned substance being listed as an ingredient.
That has caused a flurry of inquiry by the league and the players representatives.
And according to the lawyer representing three Saints players at a hearing in New York yesterday, David Cornwell (who has also announced his candidacy for the NFLPA Executive Director Position), the NFLs administrator of the program, Dr. John Lombardo, knew of the presence of this substance
Bumetanide
in the StarCaps product, but did not share this information with the NFL players.
The players thus continued to use the product as a weight-loss supplement that did not have a banned substance listed as an ingredient.

It does seem odd that Jamar Nesbit of the Saints served a four-game suspension for what was apparently the same product, although he
along with the Falcons Grady Jackson, an old friend of mine
is suing StarCaps.
In the event the other players do not receive the same suspension, it will be interesting to see how the league deals with Nesbit.
A decision must come soon for the players to serve their suspensions this season, as there are only six games remaining.

That won't happen , take it from me this will be over (one way or the other) by the end of next week , no way goodell will let this hang over the NFL through the offseason, what pisses me off this will be the second year running he has had a say in how our season ends , last year it was edwards who got suspened for the last 4 games for taking an over the counter supplement
