Saw a fireball go across the sky once. Another time, though I didn't see it, the meteor was so bright it lit up everything just like it was noon but it lasted for just an instant.

All kinds of stuff up there if you can hang away from the city lights.

You are right...
Hang away from the city lights.

For me, Personally.

I cherish the time when I head into te bush of Northern British Columbia,
400 miles from the city lights.

Walking into a lake that is filled with Rainbow Trout with a cow bell around my neck.
The clang of the bell in the silence of the forrest.
Too cool.

The sound of the wind through the forest, the crackle of the fire next to your bed roll.
Then when the fire goes out...
Looking to the heavans and seeing shooting stars.

It is perfect outside the city lights.

I was out driving with friends when I saw this meteor:

I only saw a glimpse of it out of the back window of the car, I remember mentioning to my friends that it looked like a meteor or a plane breaking up. I was hoping for the former, and thankfully that's all it was.

RaiderPride.....what's the cow bell for? I know, I know, to let the bears know you are there and they should get away.
Unfortunately, tests done by the Jonkel Bros. here in Montana have shown that noise like that only perks up their curiosity and when they investigate and find it's some dummy with a cowbell around his neck....boy are they pissed.
You're gonna be toast.

Better to hike along singing a Wayne Newton or Barry Manilow song and then you will definitely be safe.
Probably every creature in the forest will go into hiding, never to be seen again. And the fishing will most like be lousy also.

Oh, man, that was the best.
Sitting here in a mostly crappy mood (see the kid that did himself in thread, coupled with the McNabb thread [unfortunate juxtaposition, but provided as explanation])
Along comes Montana Bob, like a breath of good, clean Montana air...the Barry Manilow did it for me...hell, I should have informed my contemporaries when doing my previous employment to sing a few bars...I'd imagine the troops would be home by now.
That sir, is a well-deserved +1 !

Only people who have no clue about the woods and wildlife wear cowbells.

Seriously.

Sitting next to high rise window one night-morning, after late shift.

Sky is clear black.
Looking back and forth between pc monitor and TV screen, alternately staring out over skyline and local river, this streak of green comes down.
And I sht you not, fcking *green*.
Long trail of flames behind this thing, green fire -
and I was was like - FCK!!!
PLANE'S GOING DOWN!!!

Nothing but vapor left right before it reached terra, 200 yards above ground tops.
Smoke in the air, all that was left.

Had an IM program open, "HOLY SHT, YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I JUST SAW!!!"

Checked papers in morning for "spectacular green meteor above town early morning" headline.
Not so much as a mention.
Apparently no one else saw it.

You did.

Good song on the online did himself in thread, btw.

Cold rush of crap to the heart moments are always good in retrospect, news footage or no.

With the strong proviso that everyone walks away from them none the worse for wear.
