It gets consumed by a service (IFTTT) that I configured to create Tweets and Facebook messages when a new topic has been created.
That's what it does.

What it is, is a Rich Site Summary. It's a short summary of content that the website has. It helps people see the website, without actually going to the website.

What does the button do for you? Nothing really lol
