I don't know if any of you watch playoff baseball, but John Smoltz and Ron Darling are just outstanding color announcers.
They focus on the game within the game...the tactics...not just bloviating about the stars of the game.
They not only provide insightful analysis of what HAS happened, but they provide, almost on an out by out basis, a what to look for...sometimes pitch by pitch, regarding strategy....pitching hitting managing, etc..
Along with Joe Buck and the other dude doing play by play on tbs (Brian Anderson), they really add alot of great values, especially vs. the normal droning on of the obvious and star-lickage we get on NFL coverage.

I thought you were going to talk about Colored men in the early stages of baseball not tv color commentators. Duh.
Over the years I have noticed players whose teams have been eliminated from the playoffs were very interesting to listen to. As you said they don't do the typical droning on that we have come to expect. More of this.
