I was just reading some mock drafts and reading about the attitudes of some of the QBs at the combine and it got me thinking. If you are the Bears do you take Williams and all of the headaches it appears that will come with him? Or do you trade the #1 to the Commanders and pick up a 2nd round or even add next year's 1st and drop back to 2nd? Now hear me out why the Commanders would do this. The Commander's new OC was William's coach at USC, so I could see them go for it. Now why would the Bears do this? You gain 2 extra picks including a 1st next year (the odds of the Commanders vastly improving aren't very good) maybe a top 5 to 10 pick, and you still get a top QB in the draft. But here is the sleeper part I would like as the GM and if I was actually a Bears fan, you draft Daniels at 2, and then at 9 you turn around and draft his LSU wideout (Nabers). You now have a combination that has played together for a few years and they already have the chemistry. So that would just leave him to get in sync with Moore. Look how quickly Burrow connected with Chase.

It was just something that popped up and wondered if they could go that way or at least explore it. I think it would be a good possibility with the diva attitude showing up with Williams, the Bears might surprise folks.

And yes I had to go back and change the Washington name because I typed Redskins all the time.

Make the trade. Fields will improve again this year. Pick up some pieces they need at other positions.

I can't see Washington making the trade but another team may.

The consensus around here amongst the bar patron regulars at the watering hole I frequent is that the Commanders (no one calls them that) are going to make an offer to the Bears. The haul the Bears would get for that 1st seems to hover around the 2nd pick, their 1st 2nd round pick, (36) the 100th pick, (some are adding that one) and their 1st round pick next year. I have informed these so- called gentlemen that if their f----g foreskins offer all that to the Bears for that diva GQ dress model fingernail polish wearin' crybaby momma's boy
I'm not talking to any of them anymore.

I think the idea of a trade back to #2 makes sense.
I think Caleb wants to go to Washington and if I am a Bears fan the guy sounds a bit like a headcase who is full of himself and yet to prove anything.
I would probably pick Maye if I had the #2 pick, but that is just me - though I do see the great idea of a QB/WR combo with the first two picks as you suggested.

On an aside, I have the feeling that the Vikings are going to pick Penix which worries me as I think he has the potential to be the best of all the QBs this draft.
Maybe sign Cousins for a year or two of guaranteed cash and let Penix learn for a year.

I do wonder if Chicago would keep Fields if they plan to draft a QB?
This idea of throwing in the rookie works for some (Houston, Cincy), but it seems more of a fail strategy.

While I think Fields will keep improving, I don't think he'll improve enough, especially not fast enough to keep the jobs of the coaches/GM they currently have.

If I'm the Bears GM, I'm grabbing a QB, and while Caleb headaches stuff is going around, I think he'll be fine as long as the team is winning. If they aren't winning, I think that could be an issue. But what's holding the Bears back the most right now?

I'd say it's their linemen (both sides) and then QB.

So I think they have to go with a QB in the first round. Since this year is loaded with more QB up top than normal, they could still potentially trade back and get one. But they have to grab a QB in the top 16 overall.

I would trade down and pick up Harrison or Odunze (sp?) and an offensive linemen....you might even be able to get Nix, Penix,
or McCarthy in the second round.
I personally think Williams is overrated....short, small hands, and played in a great offensive system against marginal defenses.

Fields has had 3 OCs who were only marginally competent at best.

With the right tools, he can be very very good.
Good enough to win championships.

The Packers fan in me says trade it, keep fields, and draft a highly prospect WR.

The unbias football fan in me is trade it, grab
MHJ and Penix jr. Caleb is not it imo and Penix is more NFL ready. Let him sit until Fields is done with his contract or start him if Fields continues to suck.

Poles should call Beast and Buckeye into his war room on draft day. Assuming all the other FA type qb's have been taken by then, (putting Fields in the mix as well) their draft pick positions in the hands of these two would probably result in a profoundly massive haul.
