LaFleur finally let us know what defensive scheme they were hoping for entering the season.
Two different articles sources but combined I think they make a pretty clear picture.
Basically they were hoping to run Cover 3, which is what the Seahawks Legion of Boom ran, and then Hafley's 49ers team then copied (among a number of other teams as well).
So my guess is the Packers will be focusing on improving their defensive front so hopefully they can get a lot more pressure with other four, and allow them to play Cover 3 like they wanted.
They ended up playing cover 2 and blitzing more.

LaFleur from Packers.com"I thought there was an incredible amount of growth, to be honest with you," LaFleur said. "A vision of what we wanted to do and where we went to were kind of two different things. So they didn't run what they were hoping to run.

LaFleur from PackersNews.com“I envisioned rushing four and playing three-deep, four-under a heck of a whole lot more, and we ended up doing a lot of simulated blitzes, and different pressures, and playing a lot of cover 2,” LaFleur said. “You always evolve, and throughout the course of the season, through the offseason. But that was the foundation I would say of the defense. I thought our guys did a great job of adjusting and I thought we were playing some good football at the end.”

LaFleur from Packers.comThe hope was the Packers could generate steady pressure with their four-man front and play a lot of vision-based coverage behind it, but the pass rush was wildly inconsistent. That led to a lot of simulated blitzing and other pressure packages to help out the secondary, which dealt with most of the injuries.
Finding a way to get pressure more steadily, and perhaps more traditionally rather than schematically, will be a point of offseason study. Improvement from within and personnel additions could all help.
"Guys have got to be able to win one-on-ones, and there's certain things you can do structurally to help create some one-on-one opportunities," LaFleur said. "But somebody's gotta win."

I think another aspect to the Cover 3 is that your corners need to be more physical (think Richard Sherman) against the run and with opposing receivers at the line.
Our group of corners did not allow this to happen.
