Damon Sewell The Green Bay Packers have a philosophy that they always follow. This philosophy hasn’t changed (much) since the days of Ron Wolf. The sphere of …

At this point it would be surprising if Jaire returned. Though I wonder if they ship him off as part of a trade. Doubt it though.

(Welp, need a new signature as well. *sad Mucky noises*)

Always rid yourself of someone a year too soon rather than a year too late.

I'm not much of a cap guy, but it would be interesting to know how much of his cap we are stuck with no matter what.
If we are eating most of his cap anyway it may help another team bite on a trade.
That said if we are stuck with most of his cap for this year anyway is it worth the gamble of hoping he can come back healthy?

I believe if GB cuts him this year (I forget if it's pre or post June 1 designation), GB gets hit with a one year 18-19 million dead cap hit before he's off the books for good. That's why it's a strong possibility that GB moves on with or without asking Jaire to take a pay cut

I too wondered about a trade scenario where GB sends off Jaire and he either takes a pay cut or gets dumped which gives the other team fresh cap space next year and allows GB flexibility for this season.

Edit: Probably should have looked this up first

According to OverTheCap, looks to be about $8m or $18m if Cut/Trade post or pre June 1. Restructuring or Extending might help.

Always but it doesn't take the sting off.

I would be absolutely shocked if Jaire Alexander took any kind of pay cut. Jaire Akexander is all about Jaire Akexander in my opinion. The Packers options here are quite shitty, but that being said I personally want him gone, even knowing just how shitty the options are. The free agent market is shit, the draft prospects look kind of crappy, and our other cornerbacks have a strong fecal matter scent as well. In short, it's a shitty situation to be in.

Dead Cap doesn't matter, it's already spent, so it doesn't effect future decisions, and all teams get two Post June destinations, were they can release up to two players before June, but for accounting purposes treat them as they released them post June. And there are about 1,000 different ways to manipulate the cap with that stuff.

The key is what money would Alexander be getting going forward.

Looks like Alexander has a 700k workout bonus, if he shows up and works out with the team during the off-season, which at times he's skipped that.

And then $16.8 million to be earned during the season.

Looks like there were off-season roster bonuses the past two years where the Packers owed more than $8 million in March if Alexander was still on the roster, BUT it does not mention one for 2025.

So in theory, the Packers can wait until training the end of training camp and see how Alexander looks then, and they're only risking 700k. And decided to keep him, demand a pay cut or release him at the end of camp.

My guess is that this plays out one of three ways...

1) Packers release him late February/early March, to get it over with as they're ready to move on and sign a vet in FA.

2) Packers keep hold of Alexander contract, and the two work out a restructured agreement, where Alexander maximum number decreases to the point that the Packers are happy, and Alexander $0 guaranteed increases to the point the Packers have no reason to release him.

3) Packers put him on the trade market and hold onto him, and hope one of the former DB coaches (which are with the Commanders and Falcons) want to trade for him.
