Justis Mosqueda Folks, you can’t make this up
Former Green Bay Packers outside linebacker and current Detroit Lions defensive end Za’Darius Smith took to social media on Monday to share something we didn’t know we needed: a custom-made Detroit Lions ring with his name and jersey on it. Smith posted the ring on his Instagram stories, which is still up.
this actually can’t be real pic.twitter.com/Y3Nuzymxp4

The only thing the Lions won this year was the NFC North, as they were sent home by the Washington Commanders in the postseason. I’ve never seen a division title ring before. Did Smith have this made for a potential Super Bowl? If so...why post it to the world?
As one tweeter put it, “Posting this in Cancun is diabolical.” When I tried to determine whether the post was actually made by Smith, a Lions fan responded to the confirmation by responding, “Please delete that.”
This isn’t the first time Smith has made jewelry for something he didn’t earn. Back in 2021, when he was still with the Packers, Smith commissioned a team captain chain for himself. Notably, the team did not name him a captain in 2021. The Packers moved on from Smith, who played all of 18 snaps for Green Bay that year, in 2022.
Za'Darius Smith did end up getting that captain C jewelry made. It glows in the dark! pic.twitter.com/Zo2qubB3VD

Whether Smith stays in the NFC North is up for debate. He was brought in as an Adian Hutchinson replacement and has $9 million in bonuses that trigger on the third day of the new league year in 2025. In another Instagram post, though, he stated that he wants to remain a Lion. The question now is just how much of that money Detroit can shave away without Smith wanting to test the open market.
Either way, that Super Bowl ring will remind us of Smith’s 2024 season with the Lions forever.

he was a no-show in the Redskins game. And there's a reason he's been on so many teams. I'll bet he's a locker room problem

Man this guy is a character to say the least. He either made the ring for himself for the hell of it, to celebrate Detroit winning the division (lol) or as a preview to winning a Super Bowl ring next year. The last one is peculiar as Smith might be a cap casualty. No doubt he beelines to Chicago to get revenge on Detroit if that occurs.
It's been a weird year as Minnesota and Green Bay fans have an uneasy détente about two things:
1. Being annoyed by Lions fans running their mouths non stop
2. Being annoyed by Za'Darius Smith acting like Green Bay and Minnesota knifed him in the back repeatedly and at every turn.

DeVondre Campbell kind of fits that mold too.

He has almost nothing in the tank, is likely a locker room issue, and will want a bunch of money.

To help him enact revenge against the NFC North teams that have wronged him of course! Age, production and money might be obstacles, but I have no doubt Za'Darius will find a way over them in his pursuit of justice.
