So, there's this talk about there is no way the Packers will trade their 1st round pick because the draft is in Green Bay. I've read this numerous times. I have also read quotes like the following.
"Mark actually made a joke the other day. He said, 'I want to make sure you know you can trade that pick.'" - Brian Gutekunst
"Having the draft in Green Bay really doesn't change anything for how we go about that. We're going to do what's best for the Green Bay Packers. If that's trading out of the pick, we're going to do it."
- Brian Gutekunst
Granted, it's not like either will come out saying "We trading that 23rd overall pick to whoever wants it!"
It seems like really poor business to have an opportunity to land a player who could turn your franchise from good to great, solely because the draft is being held in your city. It makes zero sense to me. Wouldn't a long playoff run, even Super Bowl be better business?
1st round pick, no Super Bowl. No first round pick, Super Bowl. I bet everyone in that organization and every single fan would say the latter.
So, I ask you. Why would it matter to the Packers about their 1st round pick because of the draft being in Green Bay? I'm thinking it's more likely the Packers try to trade back from the 1st round and attempt to acquire more day two picks.

The fifth year option seems to be rather high for most of these guys and not worth it...so why not trade down.

If anyone in the organization doesn't want to trade the 1st round pick due to the draft being held in Green Bay, then that person needs to be shown the door, Murphy and Gutey included (and yes I'm aware that Murphy is stepping down in July but I'm making a point here).
If they do package their 1st rounder in a trade (say for Crosby or Garrett or whatever), then have that player announce the day 2 picks (whichever ones they have). Fans get a glimpse of the new guy, crowd gets fired up for GBs pick and the draft pick(s) gets a royal welcome. See? Easy.

If there is a player like this, he's gone in the first 3 picks. No way he would be there at 23.
If the right situation comes along, Gute takes the shot. If he does I hope it's before I sit around all night.

Packers generally picking in the 20's and it's not often you find those kind of players there unless you were depleted at a position by injuries and/or free agency... or you just landed a stud. We don't really seem to land studs in Round One for whatever reason.

Tyler Booker said something that was definitely studly at the combine.
"I make guys not love football anymore."
I don't know if he will be there at 23, but I'm not complaining if we take him as our 1st round pick.
He's a guard from Alabama.
