He has not been moved to CB. He simply is giving it a try. This is probably more about a fringe WR trying to make the team. He's good on special teams and with the plethora of WR bodies -- he's not sure to make the roster. Now if he can play WR, CB and Special Teams? That gives him an edge.

I guess after thinking about it, it's probable there are at least 6 WR ahead of him on the depth chart.

Melton says he's not moving to CB...

I think the Packers are thinking numbers wise, he has a better shot at making it as #5 or #6 CB than #6 WR, and coaches are planning to move him weather he agrees or not, or at least count him as a CB on the roster numbers.

I don't think it has to due with Alexander, but simply they have too many quality WRs and CB last spot or two is extremely wide open, though losing Alexander makes it two or three spots instead of one or two spots.

Exactly! Even if we don't count Watson (which the team is hoping will be back by mid season), Melton might not be among the top 6 WRs.

Golden, Williams, Reed, Doubs, and Wicks are probably locked in as the top 5.

Melton, Heath, and Hardman are competing for the 6th WR spot which normally goes to a STer. But on snap counts, Melton is PROBABLY #6 at this point, but that's assuming Watson is on the PUP and not healthy yet, which it's rumored he's ahead of schedule (though he still might miss the first half of the season).

Plus the Packers lost some STers, like LB Wilson and CB Ballentine, so they probably want to keep their remaining STers around.

It's just that their is 0 or 1 spot at WR for Melton, vs 2 or 3 spots at CB for Melton. So it would be easier to keep him as a CB.

Isn't Melton's brother a CB ? He could go and train with him in between camps and I agree he would be nice to have as a hidden 7th wr and also a 6th or 7th CB all in one.

Yep. Max is a CB for the Arizona Cardinals and was popular mock draft pick for Green Bay in the runup to the 2024 draft.

Exactly Dave. He probably already has trained with him extensively. Bo is by all accounts a bright young man, and last time I checked elite athelete brothers talk and walk together.
