Hits include all individual files to load a page including CSS and images. This page alone loads well over 100 images.

A better measure of traffic is visits, unique visits, and page views. Hits just tells you how many things the server had to send out.

If I understand your theory correctly, when I hit refresh it (hit counter) should jump about 100.
But even when I hit refresh after clearing my cache and internet files, it only increments by one. :shrug:

What do these statistics show me?
These statistics show all successful page views (also known as page impressions) and the time they were made. Only fully loaded pages are counted. Individual images and components are not included.

What does this tell me?
You can determine your site usage and number of pages viewed at which times.
