Here is a question in human behavior that I can not answer.

What compels people to register as a new user on a message board and then never ever post any comments?
They can read all the posts they want without registering so why bother?

The reason I mention this is from time to time I look to see who the newest member is and then see what they have to say.
I am so surprised that so many (a majority?) of new users never say anything at all.

I have been thinking about this for more than a year.
I think if people post a few times -10- they will keep contributing.
So how do we get their first post?
In the welcome section lest start a new thread for each new member.
Have two or three people (or more) specifically tell them we are glad to welcome them as are newest member.
Make a simple comment or two.
Don't get too elaborate because we don't want to have 10 threads that we say the exact same thing.
Give them a couple of days if they don't post a reply send them a PM link to the thread and tell them a group of us are saying hello and we wondered if they had a chance to see it yet.

Obviously we have to recognize that there are spam members.
Those will just be ignored until Kevin closes their membership.

edit- I just went to look at the new member section and I can't find it.
Kevin did you close that forum down?

When I checked the Google AdWords, you paid say $20, and then each time the ad is clicked a portion of that is deducted which I think was nearly 10%. I'm still considering it, but I don't know.

I think folks register expecting to be able to see "more" stuff, or perhaps so their last post read is shown so they don't end up re-reading what they once read.

The welcome section was merged into the PH Member Interview section. I've been thinking of re-titling that, just don't know what would entice people to read it.

I've always got it planned that when a member registers, they receive a PM with a little information and a link to the "how i found PH" thread.

The spam members are really getting on my nerves lately. It seems every morning I hop on here, I have two or three members to delete. PH isn't that highly trafficked so what's their motive? I don't get it.
I need to figure out how to block yopmail.com emails.

First, I love my new job, I am learning a shit ton of awesome stuff!

Second, what would you think if PackersHome was sort of a funnel for all Packers news from other sites?

Bah, shit forgot to change my text editor back to YAF... anyhow, I just wrote an app that takes the RSS feed from PFT Packers, PackersNews.com and JSOnline that will create a topic, the summary and link to the source.

HOW FREAKING AWESOME IS THAT!???

This is simply showing the data retrieved into it's sectional categories. I have a stored procedure (suedo code) written to insert it as a post/topic to the board. Basically, using the old sql statement from when we imported all the php posts into the asp site.

One drawback is say the Packers restructure Aaron Rodgers contract, we'd have a new post/topic for each source. It wouldn't take much to merge them though. The new information could be here within five minutes of it's creation.

Maybe upon launch.. create
a subforum for News Links.. then move the ones that gain attention to the Packers forum. Keeps the clutter of the rss feeds contained.. but still drives the news information and the "one stop" shopping for Packers news.
