Zero2Cool;237754I can edit the registration rules fairly easily, but once they proceed with registering, are they going to remember the link or click open the link to a new tab and come to it when registered? I don't think so. So that was my idea and then I had another idea like we used to have on the old CMS ... when a member is registered, they receive a Private Message. I've asked the developers about this ... no word back. I think the PM was great to get things going for new members. Have a little blurb in there like hey go to this thread to tell us where you found the site, go here to tell us about you and if you'd like to a do a member interview, this link.

Better wording would be required of course, but you get the idea. I'm hoping the welcome PM could be implemented fairly easily.
I could probably create an app to trigger that, but I'd rather it built into the software than me having to make an app for that lol.

I meant adding this to the registration process as an optional field, either crammed between the email address and security verification or between the security verification and the create user button. Like, "How did you find PackersHome.com?" with radio options for Facebook, twitter, youtube, internet search, member referral and other with a textbox next to member referral where a username can optionally be put in.

Sorry, forgot to directly address that in my rambling. Yes, I know what ya mean, but changing the software becomes trouble matic when an upgrade is out. I have to create a better shell project so the changes made would easily be implemented.
Adding that field wouldn't be hard. It's changing the stored procedures and the tables that become worriesome to me.

It is an excellent idea.

Addition to that, I wanted members to be able to select their favorite team and have it displayed in a little icon next to the AIM, Yahoo, WWW links.
Team as in NFL, NCAA, NBA, etc .. just have a slew of graphics.

Strictly for Guest users only, but I found out I can't actually disclose what I do with the money for the ads publicly. Reason being, it could entice people to click the ads.
I have it running at beta.packershome.com right now. I think it blends in with the theme okay.

I just dunno. I mainly wanna run it for a month or so, just to see a ballpark figure.
It would be nice to have us on a better host. I just don't know. I hate ads. I hate the idea having them.
I really need some creativity on how to make this work.

I won't be pocketing the money, that's certain. I don't need it, nor want it. I do want to shell some of it to AdWords and then the rest to a charity.

I wonder if it would break the rules if I were to monthly or quarterly inquire of a charity to donate money to on behalf of PackersHome.com?

just went to beta as a guest.
the ad is fine.
clicked the link.
I don't see a problem with it.

as far as a Q donation- there is no law anywhere that says you can't ask people which charity you should donate to.
They can not tell you how to spend your money for the rest of your life.

lol that is true, however, their rules state I'm not allowed to say ...

Hosting Cost - AdSense = Charity

Because then that will entice people to click the ads to benefit a charity.

I think what I'll do is just inquire of charities to donate to, take three, have a poll for 3 days, then send the money.
I think those who hate ads (like myself) would think "okay so there is an ad, but this dipshit is sending money to charity every month ... it's a wash".

April 2013 = $3.71 18 Clicks 10,120 views

It's only visible to Guests, but I don't see this as really being worth it. Although, the hosting package is about $11 a month so I guess the site is "paying for itself" in that regard. A co-worker (same one that kept on me hour by hour at work all day long for weeks to put up ads) keeps hounding me to put it on for logged in members too. I won't be doing that, it's just not worth it in my opinion.

I haven't heard any complaints, although, I was hoping to. Because then I'd respond with "if you register and sign in, you won't see them :) "

:-)

The only reason I haven't removed them now, is because I hope it entices folks to register and sign in. And if you're signed in, there's
a better chance of you posting a reply.

My opinion on the topic. I think the sponsor space has it uses and if it covers at least the cost of the hosting of the site great. I would not even be opposed to having sponsor in the margins while signed in.

The norm fromm surfing the net is to deal with the ads.. as long as they are not pop up or expand out or something delaying of that action, they really are not that intrusive.
