If you hit PackerPeople.com that is the nav menu I'm liking. It's responsive to the resolution of the client.
On the attached image, I threw together the concept that I'm bouncing between my ears.
Basically, it's two columns ( the side column would be hidden on mobile devices if space is not permitted) and would contain blocks.
These blocks would have one item displayed, instead of a vertical scroll.
The blocks would have Left and Right arrows to cycle through each Tweet, or Headline or Latest topic.
This design concept for the blocks was thought of to eliminate having a long page that has nothing in the "Body" but the side column extends quite a ways.
Also, there will be a Schedule block too, but that won't have any action items. It's just display, with.. well exactly what we have currently.
I was thinking with having the Headlines done as a block it might get peoples attention more. Sure, it'll be less page views, but thats fine by me.
The Body area (outlined by the scratching/shading zigzag) would be where things like NFL Picks would be done or draft history, etc... and the side column would still be visible.
Only the Body will be shown on devices that make sense to show only the body.
Right now, PH is garbage (understatement) on mobile devices. I can do better and I will do better. YAF, our forum is going to be meshed into bootstrap which is responsive layout design, meaning the design responds to whatever the client has. Basically, that means three layouts.
In very generic terms, smartphone, tablet and desktop design.
PH absolutely needs to be mobile friendly because we're getting a LOT of hits from mobile devices and they are jumping ship right away. I want to lasso those folks in, keep them here, lock the door and toss the damn key! :)
So, what do you fellas think?

I like what you have done. You have worked hard on this project.
I am not mobile so it is a little hard for me to have an opinion other than the better the site is the more opportunity for new members.
I understand that younger people like their smart phones and tablets and so on.

Should we move this to round table or something to get others thoughts?
Not that your opinion is meaningless Wayne, but I'd like a tad more feedback lol.
I forgot to include the schedule banner block on there so i'll have to do another mock up including that. But just imagine a soft colored rectangle about 70% of the width of the screen about 35 pixels in height.
This would display things like upcoming Packers events, Packers player birthdays, BREAKING NEWS ... etc... and if breaking news, background would turn to red, if birthday, blue,
etc ... something like that. Tons of flexibility there.

Personally, I like the concept with one section of blocks a bit more than what we have now with dual ones.
But in terms of mobile apps.. I don't really use them as my big meat hooks with sausage fingers don't do well with the tiny touch screens. Just frustrating, so I haven't done much in designing for them let alone using them.

yes you need to move this.
Not that I am offended.
I talk and talk and talk about things I have little or no knowledge on.
But I want you to get feedback from people that will be using it.

I'm assuming what I am seeing now on packerpeople.com is not what this thread is referring to....
Can I get a screenshot of what it is supposed to look like :(

I moved this topic into the Packers section. Feedback is much appreciated and wanted.
If you say PH is suckage on Mobile devices, you won't get any argument from me.
One reason you haven't seen many new features added is because the offseason just started couple months ago and primarily because the site is going to be completely overhauled.
Our forums are the heart of the site and unfortunately, I have little to no control over that unless I start taking up development of it in addition to the current developers. Which might happen just to speed things.
BUT the YAF forums we use will be responsive layout design within the next few months.
Basically, what do you all feel about going from three columns down to two columns on the Desktop view?

There is an attachment of a quick mock up drawing in the first post. The nav menu you see on PP.com is FUNCTIONALLY what we'll be using moving forward. The layout below it... that's under consideration.

I'd use the mobile version.
Looks good, too.
I've used the site through my phone in the past, and it's usable, but I think if you upgraded that aspect of it, it would boost usage.
It's a great forum.
