Dulak;312988Great pick! ... if we needed a short basketball player.

hope he is worth the #2 spot

He can cover TEs.
That's a basketball skill.

One thing I'm getting from these Dbacks is the ability to play the ball in the air.
No more Pat Lees or Ahmad Carrolls.
Or Jarrett Bushes.

Zero2Cool;312378This draft has me feeling like I did when ESPN duped me in to thinking Packers screwed up big by passing on Chad Jackson and taking Greg Jennings.
Since that foolishness, I have not been worked up over a draft lol

I have liked what I read about this kid though.
I think he's going to do well for us and if not at least the defensive team will win the summer basketball league!!

The Greg Jennings trade is one of the best moves Ted's ever made but at the time I do remember thinking "who is this guy?"
Later pretty good about him when I went and watched what videos I could find and read about him.
Nick Collins was another one the year before.

As for Quentin, I'll be hunting down as much video as I can.
Maybe corner will be the next tight end as far as basketball tight ends?
Who knows?
But hopefully this means that between Rollins and Randall our secondary depth is set now.

Hmm...wonder what I missed in all those deleted posts.
:)

ANyway, on to Rollins.

I do NOT like this pick.
I didn't like Project Goodson last year, but at least that was a late round pick.

Start with the DBs I had above this guy:
P J Williams.
Actually a pick that would have been worthy of a early/mid-2nd.
D'Joun Smith (the only other DB that I saw as possibly worth a late 2nd, though I saw him as early 3rd)
Others, still above Rollins, but none before the fourth or fifth:
Alex Carter
Charles Gaines
Ifo Ekpre-Olomu
Doran Grant
Bobby McCain
Craig Mager

[BTW, I just realized that in a complete brain fart yesterday, I put Rollins on my "worth pick 62" list yesterday.
I meant to put D'Joun Smith there; I'm not sure why I put Rollins there.
I've never had him very high on my board.]

Other available players I would have taken instead:
Carl Davis.
Mid-second talent.
Real need.
Would have been instant upgrade over Raji/Guion.
Eli Harold.
I had him as mid 2nd too.
Clive Walford.
He was #1 TE on my board (above Williams, yes).
Plus a real need.
Jaelen Strong.
Way above on board, though not a need.
Owamagbe Odighizuwa:
Way above on board.
Definitely late second value at a position needing competition.
A J Cann:
Much higher on board.
Plus I want Lang to have the starting position only if he beats out serious competition.
Higher on board, but after the second round:
Paul Dawson
Hroniss Grasu
Sammie Coates
Garrett Grayson
Jeff Heuerman
Chris Conley
Henry Anderson
John Miller

Rollins to me classifies as a "project".
This is not the place to pick a project.

Very very risky pick. I don't like it.

A guy that played basketball and one year of football can be one of two things. It can be a probowled NFL player that wasn't picked in the top 10 only because he played just 1 year of football. Or he can be a guy that signs his contract and never makes an effort to play on a high level or learn the position because he really doesn't care about football.

I like guys that played football all his life, his father played, his brother played his sister played until they noticed, guys like CM3 are those that "can't fail" and will always produce more than 100%.

I really hope Rollins is another Sam Shields but I think we already got lucky once with this sort of gamble and it won't happen again.

Some scouts were saying if he had played football for another year he would've been a top 10-15 pick.
Going into the draft, he was one of six guys I wanted the Packers to select on Day 2.
He's gonna surprise some people here.

I agree, his tape although limited, seems to be pretty darn good.

With his hair I wouldn't be surprised if CM3 is occasionally mistaken for someones sister.

Mucky Tundra;312987You do realize the MAC is a DI conference? Did you know the #1 overall pick in the 2013 Draft Eric Fisher went to a MAC school? You also realize that guys like Sitton, Lang, and Starks all came from MAC schools? How about Ben Roethlisberger? Antonio Gates? Brandon Marshall? Remember Greg Jennings?

The Mid-American Conference - 74 MAC Football Players On NFL Rosters

To add to Mucky T's comment...

Rollins was MAC defensive player of the year on a 2-10 team. Okay it’s not a “power conference;” but he’s competing against a lot of really good hungry quality college players that play their bajeebees off, many of whom don’t have the measurables for NFL.
If ya got hit by one of their 5’9 170 lb safeties, you’d know what I mean. LOL Note: The last 2 winners of the award were: Kahlil
Mack and Chris Jones [DT NE]; also Larry English, Jason Babin, Dwight Smith won as well.

If he continues on his trajectory his instincts will overcome his speed deficit.
If not this guy will be an absolute STUD box/strong safety.

I like this pick. Rollins has a tremendous upside with nice measureables, I believe he could be something special given a little time.

I'm still kind of "wait and see" on 1st rounder Randall but the more I learn and see about Rollins the more excited I get.
Maybe this guy will ultimately turn out to be nothing but I don't think he's as far away from playing legit snaps as you expect out of most players that get labled "raw" or "project".
If Rollins had a 2nd season under his belt exactly like his last season he'd have been a top 10 pick.
I think this guy has the potential to be one of GBs best non QB draft picks in a long time, hopefully he can reach it.
What this dude accomplished in his only season ever playing college football is ridiculous.
I don't care what conference it was for a guy to just walk in and dominate like he did after not playing football for 4 years is amazing.
To add to that we've got some DB coaches that seem to be good at getting young guys ready to go pretty early at that position.

I think we are ultimately in a good spot at CB at this point.
If we end up with Hayward and Shields outside with Hyde in the slot that's still a good group but if one of these guys can win an outside spot from Hayward that means they are good and we've got a good CB in shields and elite slot CB in Hayward.
Either way it should be a fun competition to watch.
