Zero2Cool;319980I was going into this season thinking Davante Adams was going to step up from the prior season and then I looked at what he did during the 2014 season.
My confidence has been shaken.
What you don't see is that Davante Adams was rated by www.ProFootballFocus.com last for the Packers WR which included Jarrett Boykin and Kevin Dorsey.
How can we look at this and feel confident about Davante Adams in an increased role for the Packers?
Pretty easily... just note that ProFootballFocus.com stat system isn't perfect (as I believe they note) and their system of doing things does have it's flaws (which again I think they note but don't go into detail).
But one of the system's flaws that I think they have (and I could be wrong) is that a player that never sees the field (say ILB Carl Bradford) gets a grade of zero... mean while others who clearly beat out the player on the bench (say A.J. Hawk / Brad Jones) might struggle and get a negative grade because they're struggling on the field... and the negative grade is on the field is lower the zero.
So which is worse? The player with the worse grade that is getting the coaches approval? Or the player with the better grade who can't get coaches approval to stay on the field?
So clearly based on the Packers actions Adams > Boykins and Dorsey
But will Adams have his break out year this year? I can't say he will other than he'll get more chances... but I can still feel pretty confident that Adams will break out with the Packers because he's a Ted Thompson 2nd round WR pick and as long as he stays healthy Ted Thompson has a good nack with 2nd round picks... it took Nelson 3.5 years to break out? Adams will too...

PFF assigns a grade for every play, which has value; but whoever tries this needs to know the assignment and this is very hard for GB receivers.
I’d love to see the PFF ratings on the Eagles pick 6.
I bet Rodgers got a big minus and Janis got a grade close to zero; when the INT was primarily Janis’ fault.
The Outsiders had Adams as the #63 WR for DVOA.
[DVOA [in very short] breaks down every single play of the NFL season, assigning each play a value based on both total yards and yards towards a first down.
Then the play is assigned a value compared to an average WR
in the same game situations and then adjusted for the quality of the opponent. A 10 yard pass caught against Sherman is graded higher than a 10 yarder caught with Barrington guarding.
A 20 yard pass 2 seconds left in half and 80 yards to go for TD is not the same as a 20 yard catch for TD that wins the game or gains a crucial 1st down].

The pick six was from Brett Hundley, not Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers didn't play.
And the interception was counted against Jeff Janis according to ProFootballFocus.com

I was referring to TE Rodgers who appeared to have slipped as the target of the pass; but that is pretty impressive for PFF to catch that...well, or they read Packershome...LOL

Oh, my mistake then.
PFF is pretty good, I mean several NFL teams use them as a resource and a boat load of media too.

Adams was drafted by Ted Thompson.
Ergo, he's good.
Adams was a WR drafted by Ted Thompson.
Ergo, he's really good.
Adams was a WR drafted by Ted Thompson in the second round.
Ergo, he's really, really good.
No more needs to be said.
