People seem to forget the major trend for new GM's and Head Coaches, they always draft a qb for there system. McCarty got Rodgers , Holmgren got Favre and look at other teams. The trend is there they all want their QB. So was it a surprise? Not really but trading up for him had me shocked, plus people there are alot of Wr's still left on the board to get in rounds 2 and 3. Also Rodgers is truly on the decline look at his past 2 years and how inaccurate he is on the deep balls. Those throws were what made him so good when he was younger. I honestly think he lost some zip on his passes and he has happy feet now. Hopefully in a few years we can find a sucker and trade him off and dump his contract.
