But Jamaal Williams is also a powerful back and I don't think they ran him in goal line, did they?

They did have him in a few times. How hard would it be to put him in in that situation and say “take the handoff and plow through”?
Then you would have a clue on how he might do in that situation going forward. With no preseason, this would have been a perfect chance to find out. No fan noise to throw him off.
