beast;446699Also in these types of situations, why are they the #1 running defense? Because their running defense is so good? Or because their passing defense is so bad that teams don't even try to run it?
I remember in the last two weeks the narrative asking the Baltimore head coach why they went for two point conversion to win or lose the game (which they missed and lost) instead of taking the extra point after touchdown.
Head coach said because they had no more healthy CBs... they were thin entering the game and had a couple injured during the game. And didn't want any more injuries and were sure the defense could hold up should they lose the coin toss.
So the passing game might have a huge day... and they'll run less because of it, and maybe be less effective as well.
Good question. I say a little of both. The team's yards per carry defense is excellent. Tied for 3rd with the Rams at 3.9
On the other hand on pass defense they are shockingly high. They give up 7.8 yards per attempt. That's tied with the bares for 29th. Only the Lions (8.2) and Jets (8.3) are worse.
The Packers give up 4.5 rushing defense (25th) and 6.7 (5th) pass defense.

I was relieved to learn that Shawn Hochuli and his crew won't be officiating the Packers game.
Although I don't have any stats to back me up, I just don't feel like they are a very good crew.
Brad Allen and his crew will do the Packers game.
I know nothing about this crew, hopefully they will be a better officiating team.
Although this year all the officiating has been rather shoddy.

Allen's crew 4th fewest penalties called and yards assessed.
Tied 5th holding and yards. 6th PI. 7th in yards. Worsted in unsportsman 31 in yards.
rotowire
Edit- this is only 17 crews not 32.
Hochuli 16, 12 and 11 respectively. I skip rough passer for both and unsportsmanlike on Hochuli.
Double edit. There are 16 games max a week. 17 crews is correct.

Almost exactly as I expected it to be. Winning ugly, but we got a slew of our best players out.
We'll get better for the playoffs, hopefully.

Thought we would play better.
They went for 2 for the win.
Ravens trusting analytics for the loss.

Happy with the win but the Packers poor execution at the end of the game is very worrying for a team that has not gotten past the NFC Championship game in over a decade. That three and out at the end of the game was inexcusable.
Then on defense, they still had no answer for covering the Ravens TE. Good news is that there are still a few key players the Packers are expecting to get back in time for the playoffs.
