Now that Eric Stokes is no longer a Packer, it might be worthwhile for a reporter to ask him what he thinks about the Packers and Alexander relationship. Not sure he'd be willing to weigh in at this juncture, but it is certainly worth a try. Zero could get a mic and a little Packershome mic sign doo dad and head to Vegas. It's nice this time of year, lol

Scoop Aaron Nagler and launch his new career!
(Maybe side gig)

dhazer;468951If we are cutting just to save cap space why isn't Kenny Clark's name brought up? I am sure we could find someone for half the money to get 37 tackles for the year. Cut him we save $10 million with post June 1st cut. Think of this Alexander played in 7 games and had 16 tackles, Clark played in 17 games and had 37 and 8 of those were in 1 game. But we don't hear of any of that talk.

Thoughts?

Jaire is not willing to play through injury. If he's not 100%, he's not going out on the field. At least, that's how it's coming off.
Kenny Clark is playing, he's on the field.

So you're paying for something and getting something with Clark. And with Jaire you're paying for something and getting nothing. That's the difference between the two. They would love to have Jaire on the roster,
but if he's not going to play, why pay? Are you going to pay $5,000 a month for a car you can't drive or would you get rid of it and cut your losses?

Statistics don't necessarily tell the whole story with Clark IMO..

Did he have a great year, no, but I would argue he did not have a bad year either.
IIRC, when I was watching, he was double teamed a lot, dare I say more often than not.
Opponents felt they could because whoever was playing the other DT (Wyatt, Wooden, Brooks) was average at best and they felt they could 1 on 1 that person sans risk.

Yes I would like more, but he would be difficult to replace.

Because cutting Clark isn't worth the $1.3 million it would save... based on Clarks contract, there is no reason to even even slightly releasing him until 2026.

Well, technically, I guess they could release him before his roster bonus kicks in and save $10.5 millions, but they would have to release him in the next two or three days, otherwise that roster bonus locks in.

Plus while Clarks quality of play has been slipping for years (since like 2018), he's still eating up a HUGE amount of snaps... like you would probably have to sign two guys to replace the amount of snaps he gets on the field for... he's got the endurance.

I am still kind of shocked that McDuffie had more defensive snaps than guys like Stokes, Gary, Clark...

"Yeah, X (Xavier McKinney) reached out to me, Rashan Gary, Jaire Alexander actually congratulated me, and yeah, those guys so far." - Nate Hobbs

That's interesting to me. And makes me think Packers might keep Jaire.

Stokes got benched for a little while and the DL rotates a lot. But yes, Cooper was the #2 to Walkers #1 most of the season, and for some reason they kept the physical talented Cooper on the bench most of the year, I'm not sure if he was still mentally learning, or what kept him on the bench.

But notice Clark had 685, where the next DT had only 440, and I think there was a good jump between #2 and #3.

BTW guys I wasn't saying we should release Clark was just using him as an example of someone with a huge contract that could be cut to save money. I still think Jaire is worth the extra money even if for only 7 games compared to just releasing him. Time for coaches and players to bury the feelings and do whats best for business.

Understood, however, you were saying if the goal was to recover salary cap space ... and I was pointing out Clark is getting on the field, Alexander is not.

Jaire reached out to the new CB already, I think that's a good sign.

Matt LaFleur says Jaire Alexander is participating in Packers offseason program, which has been conducted virtually during this first week because of the draft.
