Silentio;198604Wow. Um. The “blocked” punt ended in a great play by Mastay to keep a drive going. Missed FGs happen; I don’t see how that’s on Slocum and not Crosby. Touched onside was touched by Tampa, not Green Bay. You also conveniently fail to mention the other onside kick that Green Bay secured easily. Nice blocking and a run by Cobb gave Green Bay great field position. Block in the back brought it back 10 yards, but it was the result of a good effort and an attempt to go for the punt return for a TD. If anything special teams has played great ball this year. Going after Slocum shows that you just have an agenda against him.

Pretty nice that on an off day Rodgers gets three TDs and a QB rating of 112.3.

My agenda against Slocum is that I don't want him to suck.
The punt that was run for a first down was a breakdown in protection.
In common parlance, shit suckage.
The onside kick was touched by Tampa, thank god, but our guy shouldn't even have been NEAR the ball, because it had not even come close to 10 yards.
And there were
multiple penalties on kick returns.
At least 2 or 3.
What happens if Cobb takes that last kick back to the house?
It comes back to midfield.
Although I will say that was an extremely weak flag to throw there.
Special team have been far from "great" this year.

So you seriously believe that Slocum teaches them to commit penalties?
Wow.

I would guess he believes Shawn Slocum is failing at teaching the players to play SMART, not so much teaching them to commit penalties. Diving for an onsides kick that has not went 10 yards is a mental error that the coach should be able to correct with his players.

This I agree with.
I thought EVERYONE knew that the ball has to go 10 yards.

If the ball obviously isn't going to go 10 yards, then it's your ball.
I thought EVERYONE knew that.
Apparently not.

To be fair, I watched the reply of the "block in the back" several times and it was nothing more than a light hand placement on the guy who then fell over.
Absolutely not a block in the back.
Horrible call.

As for Neal, he got a push up the middle once I saw early in the game.
It was interesting how wide they were lining him up like an outside LB often.
Other than that, they pulled him sometime around the third quarter and I'm not sure I saw him again.
Hopefully that was just precautionary.
Guy looks big and strong though.
Hopefully he can deliver just a slight push from the inside.
A little should go a long ways.

B.J. Raji became the first nose tackle in the history of the NFL to score an offensive touchdown today.

Only four defensive linemen have scored offensive TDs since the NFL merger.

William Perry (CHI, 1985, 2 TDs)

James Jones (CLE, 1993)

Shaun Smith (KC, 2010)

B.J. Raji (GB, 2011)

I'm not sure it is to play smart as much as it is to play prepared. The one are teams are going to try to best the Packers in is Special Teams. Most teams are going to have nothing to lose, seeing as most defenses can only stop our O for so long before they put up points.

You'd expect Slocum to coach players on different scenarios. Surprise onside kick going less than 10 yards? Well lets practice each player doing something to recover the ball, or freeing up another player to get the ball based on the area the ball went to. Surprise onside kick traveling 10 yards and going past you, well then lets practice either: A) turning around and looking for the ball; or B) (knowing some other teammate is behind you) running full steam ahead to block as many of the opposing players as you can. Your chasing a player while you KR is running towards the sidelines looking to take it all the way back? Well lets practice blocking the opposing player in X way (which is not illegal, even if it pushes the line of what is allowable).

For what it is worth, I had no problem with LB DJ Smith trying to dive for the ball before it reached 10 yards. The ball was still going forward and seemed like it had the spin to travel the 10 required yards, and he had a pretty clean shot at it. But perhaps more reps in recovering loose balls would be ideal.
