The more I think about this matchup, the more I think it is the best way to open the season for the Packers regardless if they win or lose.

This will be a physical test.. one that will force the Packers to refocus after this matchup on becoming a more physical team. Long run.. this will help the Packers.

My only concern is that they turn around and play Chicago four days later. That's two physical games in five days. That’s tough sledding right there. I don't care if they're home games or not, winning both these games would send a strong message around the league.

Not only will we learn a lot about the Packers run defense...But we can tell if the pass defense has improved. Remember guys like Alex Smith looked like Drew Brees against this defense last year. Thats what I am most curious about tomorrow.

I played a few practice scenarios and didn't much like it the results, but moved forward with starting a franchise career season or whatever the hell they call it in Madden '13 now.
First game I played on Madden '13 was the season opener against the 49ers.

Packers 22
49ers 14

I've played entire seasons of Madden without throwing 5 INT's but this game, I got 5. Pretty damn annoying how the WR's wouldn't go to the ball even when it was on their route. I have to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I did get 3 INT's from Alex Smith, including the dagger at the end of the game which if caught could have helped tie the game with no time left.

Cedric Benson had 25 carries for 123 yards with a long of 34. I think it takes me about two games to run it 25 times, but passing was scaring the shit out of me. James Starks had 1 carry for 9 yards which was a TD.

Scoring summary was odd.
Packers 0 - 3 - 12 - 7
49ers 0 - 3 - 3 - 8

I ran it a lot in the 4th quarter to eat up the clock... was too worried about throwing another damn INT!

Nick Perry 2 sacks
Clay Matthews 2 sacks
B.J. Raji 1 sack
Ryan Pickett 1 sack

Charles Woodson, Morgan Burnett and Tramon Williams each had an INT.

My first game playing a new Madden is always rough and even so, the Packers still won.

Packers
34
San Fran 21

I think Vernon Davis will have a huge day. Frank Gore will have a costly turnover, Alex Smith will be sacked 4 times.
BJ Raji
Matthews 2
Woodson
Perry

Rodgers will find Jennings early and often. GJ will have a career day. 10 catches 144 yrds 2 td
DD will have a TD
Benson will have a TD and 90 yrds rushing and a 4.0 avg

49ers 17 - 30 Packers

TD's by Nelson, Benson and Rodgers.
3 FG's to put the 49ers away.

macbob;216614O will be fine.
I'm nervous because I'm not sure how good the D is going to be.

Ultimately, I think the changes in the D from last year (including moving CM3 back to the right side) will improve our run defense and our pass rush, which will make the biggest difference in our pass D.

Packers 35-17.

Edit:

Here's the Packers Media Guide for the 49ers game:

Agree with your prediction only I have it 45-12. Wanted to bump this up, and let everyone see the Media Guide link, in case they missed it initially.

Lots of good stuff there, it's probably available elsewhwere but I sure appreciate it when info like this gets posted here, much easier to find.

Packers win, 20-16.

Packers offense struggles but the defense keeps the Niners out of the end zone for the most part.
Going to be a complaining win by the fans when it is all said and done.
