DarkaneRules;255960And this is one of the biggest tests to our OLBs. The read option tests their reactions and executes accordingly. We will see if Perry does a better job than Walden did or if they working the play to the side of Matthews.
I'm thinking the test will be equal to our DL. Datone is a rookie and will probably have a real awakening. I hope he can make some stuff happen for us. But, Jolly and a much improved Daniels should tip the scales for us. Raji and Pickett have not played alongside this level of talent on our DL in about 3 years. Maybe Neal does something special. Maybe Boyd gets a crack at it. Most excited about the impact of Jolly and Daniels though.
Figure, improved play there will be a major help to a majorly improved LB corps.

You're right. It certainly takes both. If the DL is doing its job, it makes it easier for the OLBs to read and react the same way the offense is. That way if it is a hand-off, a keeper, play-action, option whatever, we will make the play necessary.

I believe the Packers will be ready for the Read Option this week. In fact, if I were the 49'rs coach I would use the need to prepare for the read as an advantage by putting in other wrinkles that can be especially affective in these first game of the season scenario's.
Having said that I also think that McCarthy has some things ready to throw at the 49'rs that they could not possibly be ready for either.
More than being prepared for the read option I think the Packers pass rush must be effective but under control where they shrink the pocket but in a disciplined way that doesn't allow their QB to take off thru wide open holes in front of him. I see Perry being a big plus here with his ability to bull rush the QB but not having to go too wide or way inside getting there.
That and a continuation of a good run defense and that has been showing good signs thru the pre-season.
I know it's a risk but on offense I suspect we may see some hurry up which I believe would help our young Tackles vs. letting their guys line up and T off but also hold down defensive calls based on down and distance they would like to make but can't get the personnel in to do it. Make them play it straight and let Rodgers pick them apart. Not all day long but I think we see some no huddle thrown in the mix.

DL must show up Sunday, or it will look a lot like the last meeting with them. Wouldn't be surprised if they play a lot of nickel with some spy and safety blitz to avoid big runs by Kaep. Anything to challenge the run would be a plus. Oh, and lay a huge hit on that bastard!

NFL Films Game Preview: Packers at 49ers Week 1
http://www.packers.com/media-center/videos/Packers-at-49ers-NFL-Films-game-preview/001f2e76-e0b9-45b6-92f1-f6635f7658bb
You can start the video at 1:40 if you want to skip the 49ers portion, which naturally includes video from the playoff loss...
I didn't like the next video.
The answer to the question from all 3 talking heads was 'No'.
NFL Films:
Will the Green Bay Packers be able to stop San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick?

In all seriousness.
It's week one of a new season.
I have high expectations and look forward to a good game.
The only prediction I will make is that Nerdmann calls the season a wash by the end of the first half =)
