I like him a lot, great upside, and I think he's a lot like a more athletic Amos.
Though I'm wondering if Pettine is going to keep playing cover 2... in the past I thought he played a lot more cover 1, but the Packers really don't have a great deep FS... though two guys they can maybe split the duty in cover 2. (Or maybe try to coach Savage up into cover 1). But I'm guessing they're going to keep going with more cover 2 now.

wpr;418495Once again Walter is taking both sides. On the big board he rates Savage @ 27. It's not surprising when a team bumps a prospect from 27 to 21. Even if it is a "reach" you don't go from an A-B to F because moving up. Trading a couple of 4ths for it still doesn't merit the F.
Walter has him rated as the #2 safety. Potentially a 1st round pick.
A GM taking him as the top selected safety is reasonable. Clearly not worthy of an F grade.
I think Charlie Campbell writes these player reports. He usually seems to be the one who does more in-depth write-ups with his mock drafts, as well. I very much prefer reading his stuff.
I like walterfootball, but it's not the place to get any sort of nuanced opinion.

According to the three main ways of doing the trade chart, the move up for Savage was a positive deal for the Packers in two of the calculations, whereas it was a benefit for the Seahawks according to the one other way of calculating it.

I think you are right. I was thinking about it as I was typing. I guess my point was if your website partner has him listed as the # 2 Safety and a potential 1st round pick its not an F selection. It just struck me as being over the top to give the F. That should only be used for a Tony Mandarich or Rich Campbell type of a bust.

Nerd, what are the three ways of doing the trade chart? All I've ever seen is add the points and compare.

He's referring to the three different trade charts in common use.

Zero2Cool;418610Hopefully it plays out.
That's exciting... though from pre-draft media scouting, it sounds like Savage struggled as a deep Safety, while Earl Thomas has had his biggest success. But in the other Safety roles Savage look good...
This is me wild guessing that Pettine is going to stick with his cover 2 with Safeties helping over top like last year, more than his single Safety deep coverage like he ran with the Jets.

Super excited to see him out there making plays. I think we may potentially have ourselves a faster Charles Woodson.
